A CASE STUDY OF A DEEP GROIN PAIN

The numerous connection in between the system in human body is so closely interconnected that one cannot separate them when coming to diagnosing the cause of "PAIN".

Especially the mysterious "numbness" that one feel.

This numbness usually don't occur at once after a trauma or at the beginning of pathological process, it usually happens after years of problems which one ignore starting with pain or discomfort that comes on & off.

The Few Possible Causes of the complaints can be as below:

  1. The compression of the nerve at the root of lumbar plexus and the peripheral branch of the nerves
  2. Blood circulation problems at the iliopsoas muscle and deep abdominal muscle fibers
  3. The possibility of Ptosis of stomach, kidneys, peritoneum tension and the transverse colon attachment at the diaphragm (Flexure)
  4. The congestion of the fluid at the inguinal ring
  5. The compression of nerves by the tight fascial and muscles
  6. The disc prolapsed with the help of X-ray

There are many answers.

In the standing General Assessment: The client showed a line of tension anterior (Front) and inferior (Lower) to the lower part of the Right side ROM test of trunk's left side flexion and rotation limited if compared to the opposite side.

During the Palpation assessment we found that the client had sensitivity at the right groin and the tissue tension leads the therapist's hand downward to the groin besides the pubic bone with SLR of right leg test limited at 40 degree flexion.

FINDINGS:

It was found that the client had congestion in the Inguinal canal where the nerve inside the ring was compressed which leads to the numbness and feeling of fullness with discomfort.

TREATMENT:

The management included freeing the fascial tension around the ring and decongest the canal by working with the viscoelasticity of the vessels and soft tissues within the canal.

CONCLUSION:

This is one of the many reasons why one feels uncomfortable or numbness at the groin, symptoms may be the same but the problems comes from different nerves with different causes of compression.

This requires a therapist who are highly trained in palpation with the strong understanding of human body included Visceral, Nerves, Musculoskeletal and best included lymphatic system.
